Earning an acclaimed title in the IQS is no easy feat. How the J.D. Power Quality ratings and awards work is through a survey that looks at the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles during the first 90-days of ownership (reported as problems per 100 or, as J.D. Power calls, “PP100”). Simply put, the fewer the problems, the higher the score is.
The study addresses the issues of both build and design quality by make, model, body style, vehicle segment, and vehicle assembly plant. For 2021, a total of 110,827 buyers and lessees of 2021 model year vehicles were surveyed.
Therefore, Lexus is honored to be the best rated brand. Lexus finishes as the #1 luxury nameplate, improving to 3rd in overall industry ranking. With a final score of 144 PP100, Lexus moves up in rank nine places from 2020 by improving 15 PP100.
Lexus is proud to produce the highest quality vehicles! There are three Lexus models that placed #1 in their segment: the RC, RX, and the UX. And five models are awarded within the top three in their segment. Those are the ES, GX, IS, LC, and the LX.
If you are looking for even more good news, then listen to this! The automotive industry overall is also improving in initial quality, according to the IQS. This year, it improves by 2%, only a slight decrease from last year’s 3% improvement.
While the survey is packed with useful information and a positive outlook for Lexus and the industry, it also shows the areas of improvement. Turns out, car infotainment systems continue to plague the auto industry, with one out of every four problems indicated by customers being infotainment related.
With that in mind, educating and supporting our customers is now a top priority. With Lexus’ approaching launch of the 21-multimedia system– “Lexus Interface” –on the new Lexus NX, focus is being put on teaching customers how to use their vehicle’s technology. We are also providing additional dedicated technical resources to support them as we go to launch.
